Obedience
The novice level includes heeling on and off leash, doing a recall and having the
dog stay in a sit position for one minute and in a down positive for three minutes.
Open includes heeling off leash, a drop in motion, jumping with the dog carrying a
dumbell and stays while the handler goes out of sight. Utility is more complicated,
required a series of exercises with articles where the dog must choose the one
that belongs to its handler; a set of commands all done by signal only; jumping
specific jumps being directed by the handler and a stand for examination. Each
level requires three passes with scores above 170 out of 200.
Here's Owen doing the Heel on Leash
exercise at PCA
This is the Figure 8 exercise where we heel
around and in-between the two "posts".
These are the Sit Stays - notice the dogs all
line up in a row - the handlers are standing at
the opposite end of the ring (about 20 feet
away).
