(OCTOBER 17, 1988 - AUGUST 11, 2003)

A consumate showman, Percy loved an audience, whether it be at a Superdog show, or demo at a fall fair or running an agility course.

He wowed adults and children alike with his high jumping at Superdog shows in Ontario and Quebec, including the Royal Winter Fair during the 1990's.  He could easily clear 48 inches with his 15 inch frame.  I used to call him my "mountain goat" he was always finding a way to be higher than everyone else.

Field work was his destiny.  He overcame obstacles in order to get the bird.  Percy came to field work late in his performance life; he was 8 years old when he was first introduced to a pigeon.  He was a capable swimmer and loved to work for ducks, pigeons and pheasant.  He would carry a large duck as far as he could - at PCA in 2001 he proudly showed off his prize to the gallery!

Truly a once in a lifetime dog Percy was my soul mate and companion.  Percy introduced me to a whole world of dog related events.  He was always three steps ahead of me. He was brash, solid and mouthy when he wanted to be.

Percy was my first poodle and opened a door to a breed of dog I had shied away from based on their looks.  Now I will always have a poodle in my life and to make it even better all the poodles I now have are related to Percy in some way or other.

Here are a few of Percy's accomplishments:

  • First miniature poodle to earn the Poodle Club of America Working Certificate.  He earned this in 1999 at the age of 10.5 and showed it wasn't a fluke by doing it again at PCA in 2001 at the age of 12.
  • Along with "Meya" the first miniature poodle to receive the Poodle Club of Canada Versatile Poodle Award presented at the programs inception in 2001.
  • Percy ran as test dog at several CKC Working Certificate tests and NAHRA events in Ontario, New York and Pennsylvania.  He was always welcomed and was always a gallery favourite.
  • As a result of his abilities, and those of Meya, and with the support of many people, the CKC opened up the Working Certificate program to ALL varieties of Poodles effective January 1, 2002.  NAHRA had been a supporter since we started entering their tests in 1997 and continue to do so.
  • At one of the WC tests where Percy was test dog, I entered him in the "Rapid Retrieve" game, which pitted field goldens and labs against each other in a bid to be the fastest at retrieving. What a surprise to find out at the end of the day that Percy had beaten them all and we took home a numbered print.  Percy was 11.
  • First Poodle (all varieties), to earn Flyball Master (5,000) and Flyball Master Excellent (10,000) titles in flyball.
  • Most Valuable Dog to Flyball Team Award - presented as a member of the Toronto White Sox Flyball Team
  • Member of the Superdogs Performance Team from 1992-1997:  Percy performed at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto as well as many country fairs and exhibits.  He also participated in the Modified Relay for Superdogs and International Riders two years in a row.  The Relay was shown on TSN.
